Zero Stereotypes
In The Kitchen

I know exactly what you are thinking!

"Millie is about to tell me about some baking soda/vinegar situation."

And, while that combo does work pretty well for deodorizing and disinfecting, I'm actually sharing with you some of the easiest swaps when it comes to cooking that can make your food significantly healthier.

These are not crazy jungle finds; these are everyday products made with durable, non-toxic materials that get the job done right.

My goal is not for you to become a "crunchy mom" (although, if that's your desire, please be my guest); my true goal is to share with you things that I have been using for years, that I know work well and significantly reduce chemical exposure.

Let's jump right in!

Metal Pots and Pans:
Durable & Safe Cooking Options

Metal pots and pans are a staple in many kitchens, and for good reason. They are incredibly durable and heat efficiently, making them ideal for various cooking methods.

When choosing metal cookware, it is important to select options made from high-quality stainless steel or cast iron.

These materials do not leach harmful chemicals into your food, contrasting with non-stick alternatives that often contain toxic coatings as well as PFAS ("forever chemicals"), which bioaccumulate in the body.

Stainless steel is my go to! Cooking with them comes with a learning curve. But, I assure you: it is totally worthy.

My mother-in-law gifted us a set about 5 years ago and they are as good as new. I'm so thankful for this!

Glass Containers:
Ideal for Food Storage

This is probably the easiest way to start!

When it comes to food storage, glass containers are a top choice.

Unlike plastic containers, which can release harmful substances and microplastics into our food, glass offers a safe alternative that doesn't compromise food quality.

They are also the best for storage because, once sealed with their lids, they stack perfectly.

They come in many shapes, sizes, and colors.

🐥 If you have little ones, I'm glad to tell you that they also make awesome jars with a safe silicon padding! My 4-year-old daughter uses these ones every day: https://amzn.to/4ahs7oc

Metal Utensils:
A Safe Cooking Companion

Wooden and plastic utensils can harbor bacteria, and many non-stick versions might contain harmful substances.

Metal utensils made from stainless steel or silicone-coated metal are safe alternatives that won't leach chemicals into your food.

Plus, they make stirring, flipping, and serving a breeze without the worry of melting or scratching your cookware (if using metal or glass cookware of course!)

If you ask me, I am Team Metal! I know wood is a natural element and is technically safer than plastic, but I don't want the hassle. Wood utensils require special care to prevent warping or bacteria buildup, and the reality is, I don't care to do that type of maintenance. So, I stick to what works for us and is sustainable within our routine!
